One of our cutting-edge expertise areas
Our cutting-edge expertise area Active Safety is one of the fast growing technology areas within the vehicle industry. Epsilon currently has around 50 people working within Active Safety and totally around 100 people with expertise in the area.
Active Safety is a collective name for the in-built safety systems that should support drivers to avoid accidents. Using several sensors placed in the vehicle, such as a camera, radar and lidar, information is collected from the vehicle’s surroundings. The information is processed using advanced signalling processing to create an image of what happening around the vehicle.
By receiving information about the vehicle’s momentary status, this technology can answer whether the vehicle is in a stable or unstable state, for instance is the vehicle skidding? The vehicle’s behavior is also analysed. Complex algorithms and real-time systems help to decide how the vehicle will act. Examples of ways in which the vehicle acts are, among others, to warn the driver if they are inattentive, actively brake for obstacles, avoid any potential threat, stability control, etc.
Our Active Safety cutting-edge expertise area is part of the new Epsilon Safety Center initiative. The goal of Epsilon Safety Center is to provide the Swedish vehicle industry with solutions in both Active and Passive Safety. We are continually working in the Active Safety area to supply expertise and complete solutions with high quality.
Epsilon is continuously investing in expertise development in the area and actively participates in industry specific networks such as different research projects. The knowledge we gain within the area means that we can offer our customers something unique, where we can manage both complete and complex projects. This makes Epsilon a special supplier within the Active Safety area.

Epsilon has experience in the design and construction of systems for the collection of data for functions development, verification and validation. We can also offer an overall commitment in which we build systems into vehicles and provide someone to help with the collection work.
Expertise within Data collectionEpsilon can offer expertise in functions and algorithm development for application in all functions that fall under Active Safety. Development is carried out in MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow, with the help of, among other things, sensor fusion, which provides excellent control and test facilities. We have experience in developing the following functions:
Through our longstanding experience in the area, Epsilon has the opportunity to offer our customers in-house projects and a complete commitment. This means that we can develop and deliver a solution of the highest quality in accordance with the customer's wishes.
Expertise within In-house and complete commitmentEpsilon has several years of experience in the development of advanced electronics, and as a result of this, knowledge within the sensor technologies that are used in Active Safety. This includes both the design and the construction of hardware and software. We also have excellent knowledge in sensor fusion in order to take maximum advantage of the information available from the various sensors so that the most secure systems possible can be created.
Examples of sensor technologies:
Epsilon works with systems design and requirements management in accordance with ISO 26262; this is so that Epsilon can offer its customers solutions that are "state-of-the-art" and in accordance with "best-practice" where all the requirements and regulations contained in the standard are met.
Expertise within Systems design and requirements managementAt Epsilon, work is carried out on a day to day basis with the testing and verification of hardware and software, specifically for Active Safety systems. Epsilon can therefore offer very high quality solutions in testing and verification. This includes the testing of the following:
Validating the functionality of an Active Safety system can be complex, time consuming and resource-intensive. And this is where Epsilon has experience in developing and designing efficient solutions. We can therefore assist the customer in order to, as efficiently and as accurately as possible, validate sensor algorithms, hardware, software as well as specific functionality, such as AEBS.
